Abstract
Since the senior people begin to use mobile communication application (app) “Line,” some pictures with the “lotus” pattern and the “good morning” slogan have been widely used. These pictures, often called “info-pictures,” are different form the emoticons or stickers used in mediatied environment. No matter what kind of style and content the picture is, sharing info-pictures has became a popular phenomenon between the seniors. However, no research has particularly investigated in this situation. Therefore, this study aims to understand the reasons caused the seniors keep sharing info-pictures, which were divided into four categories: greeting, pleasure, motto, and information. This research applied socioemotional selectivity theory and uses and gratifications theory to explore the sharing intensity through 7 sharing factors: social interaction, relaxing entertainment, companionship, expressive information sharing, habitual pass time, cool and new trend, and expressions of affection. Further, the future time perspective served as a moderator is also examined. The results indicate that social interaction, relaxing entertainment and habitual pass time hold the positive effect toward the seniors’ info-pictures sharing intensity. Several effects between different kinds of info-pictures were also founded. Besides, future time perspective contributes to the moderating effect.
