Abstract
The market of dating app is growing rapidly and technology has intervened in human’s daily that make the relationship between people more complicated. In nowadays, dating app has been one of the main channels for getting to know your romantics partner. The U.S dating app market survey investigated that there are about 30% marriage relationship facilitated by dating app. The Asian Romantics Relationships Report made by dating app Omi also pointed out that there are 40% of users in Taiwan meet their partner on the dating app. Because the matching partner on the dating app is stranger, users will take uncertainty reduction strategies to know more about their matching partner then meet them offline. This study explores whether the concerns of dating app user will affect their choice of uncertainty reduction strategies then switch to offline dating behavior and add on sociosexuality and trait aspects of vanity as moderator variable.
This study conducted a questionnaire survey method and 582 valid questionnaires were collected. The result found that the concern of personal security and misrepresentation would affect user to take uncertainty reduction strategies, and the sociosexuality will only have a moderating effect on concern of personal security and extractive strategies. Interaction strategies will affect offline long-term dating behaviors, but appearance vanity did not have a moderating effect, and achievement vanity will only have a moderating effect on passive strategies and offline long-term dating behaviors. In addition, this study also investigated the experience of users of dating app in Taiwan. The results of the survey found that more than 60% of respondents have used tinder and 24.7% of respondents have had sexual relationship with their partner who meet on the dating app.
