Abstract |
Abstract This study was conducted using a qualitative approach to examine the opinions of foreign business professionals and business owners on the policies of the Taiwanese government concerning foreign owned businesses and immigration in Taiwan. The data has been collected by means of interviewing various business-oriented individuals living in Taiwan. All the interviewees have a minimum of ten years experience living and working in Taiwan and some of whom have more than forty. The purpose of this study is to analyze the changing nature of the Taiwanese economy and the developments that have made it a preferable destination for foreign nationals in comparison to their own country of birth. This advantageous geopolitical situation is a result of the proximity of Taiwan in relation to Western nations and the Peoples Republic of China (PRC). The results indicate that the experience of living in Taiwan has been quite favourable. The overall response has been that Taiwan has allowed the respondents opportunities that they may not have been able to take advantage of in their home countries. This paper reflects the perceived uniqueness that Taiwan holds amongst the foreign community regarding comparisons between their home country and other countries in Southeast Asia. The data herein contains valuable insights concerning matters of opportunity, quality of life, cost of living and ease of doing business as a foreign national in Taiwan. Key words: Taiwan, policy, government, foreign, immigration |
