Abstract |
This study examined the effect of sleep quality on performance and engagement. It is hypothesized that good night’s sleep replenish resources that have been depleted in the previous workday, which, in turn, enable employees to experience high work performance and engagement in the next workday. Moreover, perceived organizational support served as the moderator between these two relationships, based on Job demands-resources model that support from organizations provide more resources needed for work. The study applied ten consecutive daily diary method, with 59 participants from Taiwan and Mongolia. Multilevel regression analysis showed that sleep quality the night before positively predicts performance and engagement in the next workday. Also, perceived organizational support moderate both the sleep quality-performance and sleep quality-engagement relationships. The relationships will be stronger for individuals with higher levels of perceived organizational support, but weaker for individuals with lower levels of perceived organizational support. |
