Abstract |
Currently, there has been considerable research attention devoted to the antecedents of sleep quality; however, the impact of daily work-related events on sleep quality among daily workers remains incompletely understood. Further investigation is warranted to delve into the potential effects of various events occurring within the workday on sleep patterns. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between work and negative work events, perceived stress, self-disclosure, and sleep quality. I tested: (1) the relationship between negative work events, perceived stress, and sleep quality; (2) whether perceived stress mediated the relationship between negative work events and sleep quality; (3) the moderating effect of self-disclosure between perceived stress and sleep quality; and (4) whether self-disclosure mediated the moderating effect of self-disclosure. In this study, each participants completed three waves of survey: The first wave of survey measured negative work events and perceived stress, the second phase measured self-disclosure, and the third phase measured sleep quality. The final sample size is 246 people. Results of the analyses showed that: (1) negative work events were positively correlated with sleep quality; (2) perceived stress was negatively correlated with sleep quality; (3) perceived stress had a significant mediating effect between negative work events and sleep quality; (4) self-disclosure’s moderating is significant between perceived stress and sleep quality; (5) self-disclosure has a restorative effect on negative work events; which means regardless of the level of self-disclosure, an individual's sleep quality is significantly affected by negative work events, and this effect is mediated by perceived stress.. Theoretical and practical implications of the research findings were discussed. |
