Abstract
This study aims to investigate the impact of investor sentiment on day trading
behavior in Taiwan, specifically analyzing the effects of the margin trading and the
comprehensive sentiment index on the proportion of day trading. Empirical results show
that both the margin trading and the comprehensive sentiment index have a significantly
positive impact on the proportion of day trading, indicating that the more optimistic the
investor sentiment, the higher the day trading activity.
After the implementation of the day trading tax reduction policy, there was a
significant increase in day trading market activity, and the comprehensive sentiment
index had a more pronounced positive impact on day trading behavior. Similarly, the
outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic significantly increased day trading market activity,
with the comprehensive sentiment index having a more pronounced positive impact on
day trading behavior. These two events notably enhanced the enthusiasm for day trading.
Additionally, the study finds that investor sentiment has a significantly greater
impact on cash day trading than on margin day trading. Furthermore, as company size
increases, the proportion of day trading also increases, indicating that company size has
a substantial influence on day trading behavior
