Abstract |
This exploratory study aims to investigate why current students are interested in sustainable positions and how they develop their pre-professional identity towards these roles. Qualitative research methods were employed, analyzing four cases of individuals from sustainable field. The findings point out that workers in the sustainability field primarily become aware of the existence of these positions through education courses at school. Since sustainable work belongs to non-traditional professions, parental education has a relatively minor influence on the awareness of these emerging positions. After becoming aware of the positions, students confirm their compatibility with positions in the sustainability field through internships, network information, and educational resources. During the job search process, they also discovered that skills they had unconsciously developed in the past helped them in future sustainable positions. Participants in this study also demonstrated a strong sense of social responsibility, incorporating the positive impact of their work on society into their job search considerations. |
