Abstract |
Public transportation is very convenient in Taiwan, making commuting to work a common routine nowadays. However, little research has thoroughly explored the relationship between commuting behavior and employee daily work performance. This study developed a list of commuting behavior and examined their effects on commuting experiences, positive mood, daily task performance, and creativity. It also looked into whether employees with higher introversion or higher daily family demands are more likely to engage in these behaviors. Using the experience sampling method (ESM), the study surveyed 164 full-time employees from various occupations over ten workdays, collecting data twice daily, resulting in 1322 valid samples. The analysis revealed that: (1) Daily commute time positively relate to commuting behaviors; (2) This relationship is stronger for employees with higher introversion and weaker for those with lowor introversion; (3) Employees with higher daily family demands strengthen this relationship, while lower demands weaken it; (4) Commuting behavior improve daily task performance and creativity through better commuting experiences and positive mood during the commute. This study offers theoretical and practical insights based on these findings. |
