Abstract |
In today's digital era, social media has become an indispensable part of people's daily lives. However, the widespread use of social media platforms has led to issues such as excessive usage, over-socialization, and compulsive engagement, resulting in user fatigue. Based on emotional labor theory, this study explores the mediating effect of social media fatigue on the relationship between surface acting on social media and information avoidance intention, as well as the moderating role of extroversion. The study specifically focuses on two surface acting strategies: faking positive emotions and hiding negative emotions. A survey was conducted using a questionnaire distributed through social media platforms to increase respondent diversity, resulting in 404 valid responses. The data were quantitatively analyzed using AMOS and SPSS statistical software. The statistical analysis revealed the following findings: (1) Faking positive emotions and hiding negative emotions have a positive impact on social media fatigue; (2) Social media fatigue positively influences information avoidance intention; (3) Social media fatigue mediates the relationship between both faking positive emotions and hiding negative emotions and information avoidance intention; (4) Extroversion positively moderates the relationship between both faking positive emotions and hiding negative emotions and social media fatigue. The results indicate that both faking positive emotions and hiding negative emotions are positively correlated with social media fatigue, which in turn leads to a greater intention to avoid information. In summary, this study not only fills the research gap regarding the relationship between faking positive emotions, hiding negative emotions, and social media fatigue but also reveals the moderating role of extroversion in this process. The findings provide valuable insights for maintaining personal mental health and for the design of social media platforms. |
