Abstract
This study investigates the associations between workaholism, active procrastination behavior, and emotional exhaustion while examining whether active procrastination behavior mediates the relationship between workaholism and emotional exhaustion. The research involved a questionnaire survey, which yielded a total of 197 valid responses. The analysis of the research findings reveals several significant correlations, including work enjoyment, which is significantly negatively correlated with emotional exhaustion, indicating that individuals who enjoy their work tend to experience less emotional exhaustion. On the other hand, active procrastination behavior with a preference for stress is significantly negatively correlated with emotional exhaustion, suggesting that those who engage in active procrastination under stress-related conditions experience lower emotional exhaustion. Additionally, work enjoyment shows a significant positive correlation with active procrastination behavior when performed under pressure. Driven workaholism exhibits significant negative correlations with active procrastination behavior regarding outcome satisfaction, preference for pressure, and intentional decision to procrastinate. However, it displays a significant positive correlation with active procrastination behavior related to the ability to meet deadlines. Furthermore, work involvement is significantly positively correlated with active procrastination behavior concerning the intentional decision to procrastinate and the ability to meet deadlines. Lastly, the study finds that work enjoyment and driven workaholism influence emotional exhaustion through the mediating effect of active procrastination behavior with a preference for stress. In conclusion, based on the above research results, this study presents managerial implications and future research recommendations.
