社區是我國社會穩定最基層的力量，政府從1991年開始推動社區發展政策，補助社區各種藝文表演活動，就是要使得社區居民更了解社區，願意為社區永續發展貢獻心力。社區劇場將具有地方的特色文化、當地特殊的風土民情、具有歷史的生活軼事表現在舞台上，是社區營造推動重要工具。在推動「社區營造」過程中，「社區劇場」擔任著什麼樣的任務和角色，能夠讓社區持續運用社區劇場作為參與社區營造的手段?社區劇場在社區營造過程中是如何操作的?
本研究對於資料收集的社區和訪談對象的選擇，使用立意抽樣和滾雪球抽樣完成4個社區、14個受訪者訪談，並以個案研究和訪談法取得研究資料進行分析，探究社區劇場在社區營造中所扮演的角色，及其對於推動社區營造的影響和效益。本研究結果發現其產生之影響包括:1、社區劇場對於社區參與有深化的影響；2、社區劇場可影響提升社區意識；3、社區劇場可促進社區社會資本的累積；4、社區營造成就社區劇場，社區劇場輔助社區營造。

The community is the most fundamental force for social stability in our country. Since 1991, the government has been promoting community development policies, involving financial support for various arts and cultural performances in the community, to help residents better understand the community and willing to contribute to its sustainable development. The community theatre, which presents the local culture and special customs as well as historical life anecdotes on the stage, is one of the essential tools for community development. In the process of facilitating "community development", what kind of task and role does the "community theatre" take so as to be continuously utilized by the community as a means of participating in community development? Can the community theatre encourage community participation and raise sense of community? And how does the community theatre operate in the community development?
In terms of selecting communities and interview objects for data collection, this research employs intentional sampling as well as snowball sampling to complete fourteen sample interviews in four communities. Moreover, it applies case studies and interviews to obtain research data for analysis. The study also investigates the role of the community theatre in community development as well as its impact and benefits on promoting community development. The results indicates the following. First, the community theatre casts a significant impact on community participation. Second, the community theatre can influence and enhance sense of community. Third, the community theatre can increase the accumulation of the community's social capital. Last, community development achieves the community theatre while the community theatre assists in community development.
