Abstract
In 2020, the global outbreak of COVID-19 has led to rising demand for chips and a reduction in supply due to shutdowns in various places. There has been a wave of chip crises, and Taiwan's semiconductor industry has also attracted attention.
Taiwan has been vigorously developing high-tech industries since the 1980s, and established science parks one after another. Have these science parks affected the local Demographic Structure, Marriage Rate, and Female Labor Force Participation Rate? In "Hsinchu Science Park","Tainan Science Park" and "Taichung Science Park" and what are the different effects?
This research uses the data from the Directorate General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics, Executive Yuan, Government Statistics, Urban and Regional Development Statistics and Department of Household Registration from 1981 to 2020, and uses the differences in difference method (Difference in differences, DID) in the empirical analysis.
The empirical results show that the science park does not have a significant impact on the Demographic Structure, but it has a positive effect on the marriage rate, and it has a statistically significant level of 5% and 10% in the "Hsinchu Science Park", and statistically significant level of 1% in the "Taichung Science Park". However, the impact on the Female Labor Force Participation Rate is negatively correlated but not significant in the "Tainan Science Park".
