Abstract
Job performance, work engagement, and organizational citizenship behavior are important drivers for the sustained growth of organizations. In the face of demanding and arduous work requirements, employees inevitably need opportunities to relax and recover from fatigue. Based on the literature on micro-breaks (such as non-work-related social activities and snack breaks) and their impact on Job performance, work engagement, and organizational citizenship behavior, this study explores the influence of micro-breaks on these outcomes through the mediating role of fatigue at different levels. Additionally, this study considers exercise habits as a moderating variable to examine the interaction between micro-breaks and exercise habits and their relationship with fatigue, further exploring the moderating effects of different levels of exercise habits on the mediation mechanisms. The study adopts a two-phase questionnaire survey over a period of five consecutive days, collecting data from a sample of 125 full-time employees in Taiwan. The analysis results indicate that fatigue mediates the relationship between micro-breaks and Job performance, work engagement, and organizational citizenship behavior. Furthermore, the interaction between exercise habits and micro-breaks does not significantly influence fatigue. This study contributes to expanding the relevant theories and practical implications regarding the impact of micro-breaks on Job performance, work engagement, and organizational citizenship behavior during workdays.
