Abstract
This paper aims to explore the issues related to handling efficiency and warehouse space utilization in the steel industry storage companies. The warehouse company in question deals with a substantial number of orders each day, necessitating same-day shipping completion. However, due to the uncertainty of demand, the handling tasks have become burdensome and inefficient, resulting in increased overtime costs and significant wastage of warehouse space. To address these challenges, this study focuses on improving the placement of goods within the warehouse and the mechanism for stockpiling.
Firstly, by analyzing order frequency and demand patterns, an optimized warehouse placement strategy will be proposed. This strategy will prioritize frequently used materials or products and position them in easily accessible and maneuverable locations, thus reducing unnecessary handling time and operational costs. Utilizing techniques like ABC analysis, materials can be categorized based on their frequency of retrieval. Materials with lower retrieval frequencies should be given priority and placed in the most accessible positions to minimize time and cost during their handling.
This research will delve into methods to enhance warehouse placement mechanisms in order to reduce handling frequency and workload. This will ensure proper stocking levels and timely supply, further boosting overall operational efficiency. The study will employ data analysis tools and techniques to evaluate warehouse operations and optimize them. By collecting and analyzing data such as handling times, inventory fluctuations, and order fulfillment rates, potential bottlenecks and improvement opportunities can be identified, leading to the formulation of more effective workflows and handling strategies.
To achieve this goal, the research introduces a method for identifying long-stagnant goods and suggests categorizing goods to reduce handling time, thereby enhancing performance and efficiency. Items that have been stagnant for an extended period often contribute to reduced handling efficiency. Such items occupy storage space but are rarely used or needed. Therefore, this study proposes tagging these items for quick identification and prioritized handling by warehouse personnel.
Categorizing goods is pivotal for improving handling efficiency. Based on their attributes, demand, and usage frequency, goods should be categorized and stored in corresponding zones or locations. This approach makes it easier for warehouse staff to locate and access required items, saving both handling time and effort. By tagging long-stagnant goods and categorizing items, warehouse personnel can swiftly identify and address these items, minimizing the time spent searching for and handling them. This not only reduces overtime costs but also frees up more time and resources for the handling and processing of important and high-value goods, ultimately enhancing overall shipping efficiency and fulfillment rates.
With the goal of reducing overtime expenses and boosting shipping efficiency, this research aspires to establish a method for identifying long-stagnant goods and significantly reducing handling time through categorization, thus enhancing performance and efficiency.
