Abstract
On July 3, 2019, the TRA Tze-Chiang Limited Express police assassination incident occurred in Taiwan, it’s criminal process and the verdict caused a social uproar. Also, because the incident was highly similar to the plot of "The World Between Us", people discussed the similarities and differences between the two events, and surprisingly, the information of the drama also influences the views of the audience. What are the factors that make the audience of "The World Between Us" change their interpretation type (Dominant reading, and Oppositional reading) and the degree of attention to social issues?
This research is based on the schema theory, and discuss how the degree of realism affects audience interpretation type after watching the Taiwanese TV series "The World Between Us", and explore whether the perception of resonance and evaluation affects audience degree of attention to social issues. This research adopt the questionnaire survey methods to measure variables.
Results show that the higher the degree of realism, the more likely readers would adopt dominant reading, and the lower the degree of realism, the more likely readers would adopt oppositional reading. For readers of oppositional reading, the degree of attention to social issues is higher than readers of dominant reading. Moreover, the higher the degree of resonance and evaluation can strengthen the relationship between interpretation type and the degree of attention to social issues. If the resonance and evaluation are lower, not the other way around.
