Abstract |
This study examines the extent to which playing video games reduce stress in foreign workers. The study used content analysis, which is one of the qualitative research approaches. The data used for analysis are interview transcripts from foreign workers working in Taiwan. The findings indicate that video gaming provides a much-needed stress relief from their daily lives in the form of escapism and game play satisfaction, while also providing an opportunity to make new friends, and maintain existing relationships. In addition, most stressors within foreign workers’ lives arose from external factors that were uncontrollable; foreign workers either couldn’t change the situations causing stress or could only have a minimal impact on the stressor. Therefore, they are forced to cope or deal with the stressors. |
